The Osinga state was the residence of the Grietman, the noble administrator of the area. The original building probably was a 17th century estate and was named "Het Slot" ("The Castle") by locals. Many noble families resided at the State, until the last, grietman Schelte Hessel Roorda van Eijsinga committed suicide in 1829 by throwing himself out of the highest level of the building. The family closed and the sealed the building, only to return in 1860. The interior was not touched in 30 years. The tea cups were still at the table, as they were in 1829. At the end of the 19th century, much of the building was changed and large parts of it were demolished. At the end, the estate was nothing more than a residence of four laborers houses. The current estate was built in 1939-1940 in the style of the old building and at its original site. This building was used as the municipal office building of Doniawerstal, of which Langweer was the main village. The building was used by the municipality until 1984, when the administrative situation was reorganized and Doniawerstal became part of the larger and newly created municipality of Skarsterlân.
