Founded in 1952, the Intermuseum Conservation Association (ICA) was the first regional art conservation laboratory in the United States, providing restoration and conservation services to museums, libraries, archives, and other collecting institutions. The ICA was located in Oberlin College until it moved to their present home in 2003.

The ICA is located in the restored 1926 Vitrolite Building. Designed by architect Alfred Bruno Sylvanus as a showroom for the Parkersburg, West Virginia, glass maker Vitrolite. the building incorporates many examples of the company's structural glass. In addition to workrooms the building features over 41,000 cubic feet of climate controlled storage space.
