In May 1925, the Fox Fullerton opened with 1095 seats, as the Alician Court Theatre. Its architect was Raymond Kennedy, of the firm of Meyer and Holler, who also designed Grauman's Chinese and Egyptian Theatres. The theater was designed with a California Gold Rush theme and included several impressive murals by Anthony Heinsbergen and John Beckman. There is also sculpture throughout the theater, and its proscenium arch (still very intact today) feature unusual tapered and squared columns called herms.

Fox West Coast Theatres purchased the theater in the 1930s.

In the mid 1950s, the theater was 'modernized' during a remodeling that obscured the theater's original murals and other features.

This theater has also operated under the names Chapman's Alician Court Theatre, Mission Court Theatre, Universal Mission Court Theatre, and the Fox Mission Theatre.

The theater was in danger of being demolished for five-story apartments, but a non profit group, the Fullerton Historic Theatre Foundation, fought a long battle, and raised enough money to purchase the building to use it as a a multi-use entertainment venue featuring independent and classic films as well as peforming arts. Work began on the restoration project in the summer of 2005.

  • The polygon shows what is being used as the "theatre" until the building itself is restored and made safe for entry. Movies are projected on the back wall while patrons view it from the parking lot. From the Fox Fullerton website: "Although the inside of Fox Fullerton Theatre is not currently open to the public, it is still a place to see movies. The parking lot behind the Fox becomes an alfresco movie palace for nine evenings throughout the year in our Movies On The Fox presentations."
