golf course, country club
Oak Meadow was first developed as a golf course in the early ‘70’s by a group of Evansville Country Club members who were interested in expanding from their Stringtown road location. They involved a man named Dick Heath, a golf consultant and part of the Heath Candy Bar family from Robinson, Illinois. Heath and the group identified the Oak Meadow property as an attractive place to build a golf course. Situated on 250 acres of rolling countryside on Evansville's northside - McCutchanville. The property was the D. Mead Johnson estate and horse farm. When the golf course was built the club house was the Johnson house, a huge one bedroom home. Ground breaking began in May of 1971. On June 3, 1972, Oak Meadow was ready for play with seven lakes and sixty-eight bunkers offering the golfer a unique combination of beauty, length, and variety.
