Transitional Housing Inc, (THI) provides formerly homeless women with a safe environment, programs and services designed to direct them toward self-sufficiency and independence. THI was founded in 1986 by three nuns who continually saw the same women come through the homeless shelters where they worked. They knew that homeless women could make changes in their lives with support and a safe environment. Women living alone or with children under the age of 18 months reside for up to two years in one of THI's 64 rooms. They are referred from homeless and domestic violence shelters, drug and alcohol treatment programs, and the women's prison system. Women may participate in a year long follow-up program after she moves into her own housing. THI has supported over 1,250 women in the past 18 years.
