'Kenotafion Leonida'
Leonidas ( approximately 540 BC - 480 BC ) was a king of Sparta, the dynasty Agiadon . He was one of four sons Anaxandrides ( Alexandridis or otherwise ) from the first marriage of his father ( Dorieus , Leonidas , Kleombrotos ) , who believed he was a descendant of Hercules .
Battle of Thermopylae
Leonidas took over leadership of the allied Greek army and successfully managed to keep them united and forget their differences . His military genius became apparent at Thermopylae with the way they lined up the military departments and the speed with which the alternate on the battlefield . At the same time showed his heroism : when Xerxes sent his messenger and asked him to surrender their weapons and surrendered , the Spartan king replied " Molon lave " , meaning " Come and get it ' , so wanting to challenge him to a fight and to prove its worth.
