Measuring some 326 meters, Verdún, the mountain is also the National Sanctuary of the Virgin of Verdún. It is a major tourist attraction gathering some 150,000 each year with upwards of 60,000 pilgrims for the patron saint feast alone on the 19th of April. This has been celebrated annually since 1901 with many of the pilgrims climbing the mountain peak to venerate the Immaculate Conception.
The 1-km trail up to the summit is also set up with the Stations of the Cross. Those who make it to the top are rewarded with panoramic vistas. The summit shrine is marked with a giant monument, measuring 22 meters tall with the statue of the Virgin atop a globe, brought from France in 1917.
