For over 50 years the site was home to Club Aluminum/Monarch Aluminum Products which employed over 500 people manufacturing aluminum consumer products including, pots, pans and serving trays as well as other industrial products and materials. In 1980 the aluminum operation moved to the southern U.S. and the building was sold. Following almost two decades of neglect a large part of the 450,000 sq. ft., six story complex was destroyed by fire in 1998.
After efforts to have the owners cleanup the property failed, the City of Cleveland acquired the site in 2003. The buildings were demolished in 2007 and the 5.6 ac. brownfield site was restored for light industrial purposes as part of the City' Industrial Land Bank Initiative. It is presently for sale.
