In 1978-1979 I served as a Peace Corps Volunteer. This area was a beautiful narrow channel between the two main islands. You could cross at certain locations at low tide and the water was up to your knees. At high tide, you had to swim. 29 years later (2007) you can see distinct remnants of the area which was once a glistening channel that has been filled in. This could be an example of how beach sand that erodes from the east coast of USA naturally builds up in another area. DMG
