The Evraz Rocky Mountain Steel (formerly Colorado Fuel and Iron (CF&I)) steel mill on the south side of town was the main industry in Pueblo, Colorado for most of its history. Established in 1881, it helped to build the American West. When the stel market collapsed in 1982, Oregon Steel Mills purchased the company. In 2007, Russian steel company Evraz Group SA bought OSM for $2.3 billion. Today, the mill produces high quality rails for the railroad industry, as well as seamless pipe, rod and coiled reinforcing bar, all produced from recycled scrap steel.
