  • Ilived for three years in Ranikhet (1943 - 1946) and left for England at the age of eight. Our house is still there right next to Nah Singh stadium between the church (now a weaving factory) and the Mall road. I know this as I returned to Ranikhet with my brother in 2005 for a ten day visit. I was amazed that nobody in Ranikhet could tell us the wheabouts of Doolikhet and 'Panther's pool' in the forest where we used to swim as kids. I have since found articles on the Internet mentioning both places. I still beleive it to be a 'magical' place with unbeleivable views of the Himalayas that greeted us from the front door of our house. Unfortunately these views were not visible during our visit as it was the wrong time of the year and the mountains were covered by a haze. To me, the visit was worth while just to smell the pine trees. One other missing aspect was the sight of the Panther's roaming around at night in those days. I beleive they are still there but in reduced numbers.

Nar Singh gorund is like Lords was for Gavaskar. my whole childhood unforgettable days were spent in playing cricket on this ground. We used to play matches every Sunday between Khadi Bazar, or friends 11 or Kumaon University. I rememeber Deepak Chanan, Kamal Saaji,pushkar, chanda, my love Ashok Sah, Hari singh, pooran singh devpa,Virendra Kashyap,Subodh Sah,Stanley Utarid, Joseph Utarid and so many others. I got once a proze like best rising bowler and a checque of Rs. TEN from Colonel mehta that time. Pant sir was our coach.All these days are in my memory and I rememeber every week atleast once. Ashok Sah was our treasurer kind of friend. He used to take whole team for tea on his expenses. Pl mail me someone from Ranikhet reads it.
  • i am piyush sharma.as my father was posted in kumaon we stayed in ranikhet from 1999-2001. it was a good place to stay.we still remember it.i studied in kv ranikhet..
  • heyy this is kabindra, i was in ranikhet from 1989 to 1997, i studied from army school ranikhet and same time residing in war memorial hostel. being a war memorial my whole time was spend around nar singh ground, this is the place where i first learned how to hendle my hockey stick, how 2 wear my boxing gloves n how hit crickt ball n how to throw basketball pass.... so it was like everthing for me. memeories are always with me ...... cheers for narsingh ground n alll lovely people who were part of this beauiful place called ranikhet.. kabindra Pal Kavinpal@hotmail.com
  • We also used to live in PWD Colony near Mall Road during 1972 to 1976. My elder brother, who is unfortunately no more, used to be a close friend of Deepak Chanan Bhai, Sudarshan Gupta, Joseph, Yogesh Kapil etc. There used to be a shop belonging to Negi Jee & Bhola Guru in the Mall Road near Hotel Meghdoot. Those were heavenly times. I feel so nostalgic even thinking about that place. I have been to that place many times since and I just feel so emotional everytime I am there.
