Stepped Tank (Hampi)

India / Karnataka / Kamalapuram / Hampi / Zenana Enclosure

This famous stepped tank was exacaved only during 1980-1983 as was evident from the photographs displayed in Archeological museum in Kamalapura. It is a beautiful tank as can be seen from the photographs. Into this tank lead a series of stone water troughs originating from a far place. Water conservation was an important priority for Vijayanagar people in those days, as Tungabhadra (Pampa) water was not available throughout the year. Page edited by Dr D.
