Situated on the isolated and sparsely populated northwest end of Maui. Can be reached from the east or west via the Kahekili Road. The road is extremely narrow (sometimes only one lane wide) in spots and can be a bit scarey if you're not used to passing large farm vehicles on narrow rural backroads, but its surface is well maintained and fully paved (despite what the rental car agencies will tell you, it's paved the whole way). A lot of malehini (visitors) miss out on the spectacular views of the ocean and wilder windswept shoreline of this part of the island.
