Panchakki (Aurangabad)

India / Maharashtra / Aurangabad

Panchakki (Pani means water and Chakki means grinding mill). Water flows down to a pool 24 hours a day, 365 days an year. It is estimated that the source is inside the hill range at a distance of about 6km. This complex was constructed by a father-in-law and son-in-law duo from Persia. The burial place of the duo and the architect is now a Darga (shrine). This perennial water flow is used to turn a wheel (located in the building at the far end) which could grind wheat. The wheat powder was being used to make Chapati (Indian bread) and fed to the needy.
