This is the old town of Castleton located just northwest of the southernmost terminus of Interstate 69. The modern "neighborhood" of Castleton is much larger than this outline, including regional points of interest like Sahm Park, Castleton Square, Lawrence North High School, and Community Hospital North. This outline shows what Castleton used to be, just a whistle stop at N. 82nd St. along the Nickel Plate Railroad.
Castleton was founded in 1843 as a small village in rural Marion County and platted in 1852. In 1970, Castleton became an included town after the city-county consolidation of Indianapolis and Marion County, called Unigov. In 1992, Castleton officially dissolved and reverted to the City of Indianapolis. Polygon is approximate.
