This is one of the few remaining visible portions of the former Toronto Eastern interurban railway. This was a tramway that led from Bowmanville (east of here) to Pickering, with plans to connect to the Toronto lines. Construction started and stopped several times, and it was cancelled just after route-proving runs were started. Like most of the interurban lines serving the Toronto area, the trains would reach speeds of 75 mph between stations.
