district, residential area

New housing estate constructed in the 2010s on the site of the former Orgreave Colliery at the Sheffield/Rotherham border.
Orgreave Colliery was a large open cast coal mine which operated between 1820 and 2005. In the mid-1980s, at the height of the miners' strike, it was the site of a series of violent confrontations between picketers and police which came to be known as the Battle of Orgreave.
