The Museum of the Archdiocese has existed since 1898. The museum collects, conservates and displays artistic and historical works of art. The exhibition includes sculpture, painting, textile art (14th – 19th century) and ancient relics: mummies, wedge alphabet plates, olive lamps etc.

The Museum of the Archdiocese in Wroclaw is one of the oldest such places in Poland. It distinguishes from other museum with vast, and rare collection of antiques, so one may call it a shrine of invaluable memoirs of the past. The speciality of the collection is a set of ancient and Gothic relics, dating back to the Piast times of Silesia. The circumstances of its establishment, as well as its collection, is extraordinary, thus deserving closer learning. The archdiocesan Museum stands among a group of buildings dating from three historical periods. The earliest is the Gothic-Renaissance chapterhouse built in 1519-1527, which has fine portals and arcades. The later Baroque chapterhouse was completed in 1756. The purpose-built Neo-Gothic museum, libraries and archives of the archdiocese were built in 1896. The museum contains an important and growing collection of Silesian religious art going back to the Gothic period. In addition to altars and sculptures, it has on display ine of the earliest cabinets in the world, dating from 1455.
