Jama Masjid (Ahmedabad)

India / Gujarat / Ahmadabad / Ahmedabad
place with historical importance, mosque, interesting place

The Jumma Masjid, built in 1423 by Sultan Ahmed Shah I(1411 - 1442), the founder of Ahmedabad, is beside Mahatma Gandhi Rd, just to the east of the Teen Darwaja. Although 260 columns support the roof and its 15 cupolas, the two 'shaking' minarets lost half their height in the great earthquake of 1819, and another tremor in l957 completed the demolition. Its open court is 87,096 square feet in area and its prayer hall contains 256 pillars and 76 pilasters.

One of the most calm and peaceful places in Ahmedabad
