Romania / Valcea / Ramnicu Valcea / Râmnicu Vâlcea / Aleea Castanilor
 church, Romanian Orthodox Church

The current church Ramnic Cathedral, dedicated to "St. Nicholas" was built on the foundations of older church: one built between 1576-1586 by Bishop Michael II and demolished by the Turks in 1735, during the war against the Austrians. The second was built between 1739-1749 by Bishop Clement and destroyed by a great fire in 1847. The building, as seen today, was built by Saint Calinic of Cernica, Râmnic Bishop (1850-1868).
The construction was started in 1851 and completed in 1856 and is the work of craftsmen architectural disciples of St. Calinic, who built also the churches of the Holy Monasteries Cernica, Pasărea şi Frăsinei. With them is very high similarity in style, the difference being only in the proportion that was considered in relation to location and needs of the Diocese.
