Legend says that after Master Manole built his wife Ana in Monastery's walls to finish the construction, the prince Neagoe Basarab asked hih if he can build anything more beautiful than that. Master Manole said yes and the prince, fearing this possibility, removed the scaffolding, to eliminate any chance of appearing on earth a more beautiful monastery. Master Manole made wings of shingles and tried to fly, but he failed and collapsed on the spot where a spring appeared. Now here there is the fountain which bears his name.
