ruins, estate (manor / mansion land)
Once the site of a Georgian-style mansion built in the early-twentieth century. The mansion, once known to locals as the Marble Palace for the way its white stucco reflected the sun, burned in 1952. Incorporated into Ashintully Gardens. Ashintully (gaelicmeaning "on the brow of the hill") was the name given to the original 1,000- acre estate assembled by Egyptologist and two-time state representative, Robb de Peyster Tytus. Main façade featured four Doric columns and was spanned by thirteen window bays, its interior comprised thirty-five rooms, ten baths, and fifteen fireplaces. Architects of home were Hoppin & Koen. Hoppin and Koen also did Edith Wharton's "The Mount" in the Berkshires.
