Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's 'Contained Firing Facility' (CFF) on Site 300. Here hydrodynamic and other tests are done to improve the reliability of new nuclear weapons. Weapons core nuclear material is replaced by physicaly identical material to avoid a real nuclear explosion and environmental contamination for this kind of tests.
Together with other testing facilities including PHERMEX, DARHT, the non-critical tests at NTS (like OBOE), and supercomputer simulations, it helps the US to develop new weapons.
