Inside this hangar is a Spitfire Mk IX "Y2K", registration TE294. RCAF 442 Squadron, based at CFB Comox and currently performing the Search and Rescue role, was a fighter squadron in WW2 and flew Spitfires then.

The Spitfire is slowly being restored to flying condition, but funding shortfalls were always a problem. As a result, in early 2009 the Comox Air Foce Museum sold the Spit to Vintage Wings of Canada (Gatineau QC) for $1. Vintage Wings will complete the restoration on site, with the first flight now hoped for late 2011 or early 2012. The aircraft would then be displayed at Comox for a temporary period, and finally moved to the national capital area to join the rest of Vintage Wings of Canada fleet.

The sale was controversial, but was seen as the only way to ever get the Spitfire restoration completed.
