Built in the early 1900s by Edward Matasek for the Levantine businessman Emanual Casdagli. Casdagli had business ties to the textile industry of Manchester, England. The villa housed the American Embassy prior to WWII. Later a school for girls named after Sudanese revolutionary "Ali Abdelatif". Will be the home of the new Institute of Museology, established by the Ministry of State for Antiquities Affairs to train curators on the recent technology used in world renowned museums for better display, restoration and museological education. The institute, made possible with a $5 million grant from the U. S. Agency for International Development provided through the Ministry of International Cooperation will offer MA and PhD programs in museum studies and heritage management.
