memorial, column
During the war with France between 1793 and 1815 more than 30,000 European servicemen were incarcerated in the Norman Cross Napoleonic Prisoner of War Depot. On 28 July 1924, exactly 100 years after the closure of the Norman Cross Depot, this carefully designed column was erected as a memorial to the 1770 men who perished here.
