In 1983, a Korean civilian airplane was shot down out of the sky off of the North-Western shores of Sakhalin where many passengers were lost at sea. The Prayer Monument was built in memory of these passengers and also in prayer for world peace to remind us that we must never let tragic history repeat itself.
