In 1977, the Central Committee of the CPSU and SM USSR made a decision on the establishment of a ship project 1941 (with the tab called "Ural") with the special technical means of intelligence "Coral".
In December 1988, after the completion of state trials, it was assigned by act for the admission of the ship "Ural" to "Coral" in the Navy. In August 1989, the ship began to move to permanent locations in the Pacific Fleet. During the transition system "Coral" and its intelligence units jointly operated by the crew and members of the expedition industry, the chief of which was A. Gold (Leningrad TAP FOR "Granite").
Upon arrival at it homeberth (Gulf arrows village Pacific, the Pacific Fleet), the crew began preparations to combat a hike in the area of missile test U.S. missile defense test site at Kwajalein Atoll. But the trip never took place. A long time, the crew, even with the help of specialists Baltic plant, could not eliminate malfunction in the cooling system of ship nuclear facility. The graduates of military schools and academies of land - an expert on the exploitation of unique sets of "Coral" ERM "Elbrus" and functional software - no longer wished to serve in the Navy and were charged ashore.
The problem of airborne operation of nuclear installations and major sets of "Coral" Navy could not decide for several years. After the collapse of the Soviet equipment of zakonservirovana and technological facilities were merged. That was the fate of a large atomic intelligence ship "Ural" with the special technical means of intelligence "Coral".
