The Torrington assembled camshaft is a unique, composite design that is both lightweight and cost effective. The fabricated construction uses hardened, bearing quality steel lobes that are mechanically retained on hollow tubing. This design is engineered to reduce friction, withstand high valve train loads and simplify finishing by the engine manufacturer. The camshaft is used in internal combustion engines to actuate valves at a precise time during the engine cycle.

Automakers in North America and Europe currently use the Torrington camshaft design for cars and light trucks. Designs are available for single and dual overhead-cam engines. One version features an integral sprocket for the timing chain.
