Prior to the completion of ARCO Plaza in 1972, ARCO founder Robert Orville Anderson commissioned Bauhaus artist Herbert Bayer to design a monumental sculpture-fountain to be installed as the plaza's centerpiece between the twin dark green granite towers. Bayer also was the designer of ARCO's corporate logo.
The sculpture has been seen in a number of films & TV shows including 1976's Marathon Man, 1990's Pretty Woman, 2005's Fun with Dick & Jane, 2007's Rush Hour 3 and in several episodes of the TV show Heroes.
