Elk Island National Park

Canada / Alberta / Lamont /

Canada's 8th smallest in area, yet it is the largest fully enclosed national park, with an area of 194 km². Most of it lies north of the Yellowhead Highway, while a smaller portion of it lies south of it. It preserves one of the last remaining areas of relatively undisturbed natural aspen parkland in Canada, as the vast majority is now heavily altered by farming, urbanization, and other human activities. The national park is home to one of the largest concentrations of wood bison, and is also home to plains bison, elk, moose and beaver as well as over 250 species of birds.
