Warren G. Harding visited the city of Vancouver on July 26, 1923 the first sitting president to visit Canada. An estimated 50,000 people crowded into Stanley Park to hear him give a speech. A week later Harding and his entourage were in San Francisco and he died there on August 2nd exactly one week after visiting Vancouver. The monument was unveiled in 1925.
