Gravestone says: and also his 3 sons William, Ebenezer, & Joseph who died at sea, no dates given.

Captain Vose was a mariner. He left Milton in 1734, and had been "long absent beyond the sea" when his father's estate was divided in 1736. It was agreed that he was to receive from his brother Edward, as his share of his father's estate, 625 pounds, 9 shillings, and 4d., a double portion, as he was the eldest son, but on Oct 7 1737, he and his wife Phebe relinquished all thier claims for 300 pounds.

Among the vessels owned in Rhode Island and captured by the enemy in the French and Indian War was the Prudent Hannah, commanded by Captain Ebenezer Vose. It was seized Oct 9, 1757, but afterward ransomed.

He was a member of the Second Congregational Church in Newport, his name appearing often on Rev Ezra Stiles' visiting list, and was one of fourteen names, "not Tories," enumerated by Mr. Stiles, who remained in the town when it was invaded by the British and Hessians, Dec 8, 1776.
