The Hobart General Post Office was constructed in 1905 at a time of expenditure constraints imposed by the new Commonwealth Government. Because of this, the people of Hobart would fund the building of the clock, tower and structure. In 1912, Roald Amundsen would travel to this building to send his telegram stating he had been to the South Pole and returned.
Australia Post is situated within the building, and Western Union money transfers are available through here also.
