Opened in February 1984, the Bowen Bridge cost $49 million to construct. Laying approximately halfway between the Bridgewater Bridge and Tasman Bridge, the bridge was built with the intention of relieving traffic from the Tasman Bridge; as well as provided assistance to commuters in the event of anything occurring to the Tasman Bridge.
