Battery Arizona was intended to be a heavy gun emplacement built by the US Army to further bolster the coastal artillery on Oahu's West Coast against the threat of Japanese invasion.

With construction beginning in late 1942 on the underground portion of the battery, the original US Army artillery pieces slated for use in the battery were passed over in favor of the former #4 triple 14-inch gun turret from the sunken USS Arizona in Pearl Harbor, a decision which required additional construction to accommodate the rotating mechanisms of the Navy gun turret. With the majority of underground construction completed and the turret itself emplaced but not active by the V-J day in August 1945, Battery Arizona was left uncompleted and largely stripped of usable materials after the war.

Today, the underground tunnel complex and battery commander's station still exist, though they now stand on private property.
