The channel originally began in 1981 as the planned WCOT TV which would air mostly religious programming. When the programming was purchased by Cleveland's WCLQ TV, the license was sold to Ernest Angley Ministries who began building the station in 1982. It went on the air by 1985 as a religious independent channel carrying family friendly programming. It picked up the rights to the Fox Kids block in 1995 and by 1997 picked up the affiliation with the WB Television Network. In 2006 it became the affiliate of the new CW Television Network. The channel lost the CW affiliation to WUAB in July 2018. Today the channel carries independent programming on 55.1, Buzzr on 55.2, Movies! TV on 55.3, Heroes & Icons on 55.4, Start TV on 55.5, and Binge Tv on 55.6.
