thermal power station, coal-fired

Powerton plant supplies electricity for the Chicago metropolitan area, but never in Pekin or Peoria. One of the 345,000-volt lines goes directly to the Goodings Grove substation and the other one to Dresden. Interesting that those transmission towers can be seen in every major Interstate highways within Illinois, on I-155, I-74, I-39, I-55, and I-80! -- About 150 miles of power lines.
