thermal power station, coal-fired
Owned / operated by Great River Energy. This is the largest coal-fired powerplant in ND at 1.16GW (just shy of 1.21GW {grin}) and in operation since 1979. The plant burns lignite coal mined at Falkirk Mine, located to the north. The bulk of output is transmitted over a +/- 400kV DC line going directly to a converter station near Rockford, MN.
