The Ravenscraig plant had one of the longest continuous casting, hot rolling, steel production facilities in the world before it was decommissioned. The closure of Ravenscraig signalled the end of large scale steel making in Scotland. The Plant was closed in 1992.

One plate rolling mill, now called Dalzell Works, continues to operate as part of Tata Steel Europe. Dalzell is the works David Colville started in 1871, and it is still rolling hot steel today.
