Huntingdon, a "city set in a thousand hills", was founded by William Smith in 1767. A friend of George Washington, Smith was a colonial leader and an educator, who subsequently became provost of the University of Pennsylvania. The Borough of Huntingdon, incorporated in 1796, celebrated its bi-centennial anniversary in 1996.

As the county seat of Huntingdon County, our community is favored with the Courthouse; J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital; Westminster Woods, a Continuing Care Retirement Community; and nationally recognized Juniata College. Along with our Downtown Business District, we also have the following located in our community: DuBois Business College; a Community Center specializing in indoor activities for our youth; and Detwiler Field and Blair Park, both which provide facilities for outdoor sports and other activities.
