THORPE, a village in East Lake Lillian Township, section 14, named for Lars Olson Thorpe, a banker who was born in Norway, came to Minnesota in 1865, served as county register of deeds, 1874-81, was state senator, 1895-97 and 1903-9. The village had a creamery, built in 1896, a station of the Minneapolis and St. Louis Railroad in section 13, and a post office, 1898-1906. It has an estimated population of 10.
