Kubu Island, a rock outcropping in the Sua Pans of Makgadigadi Pans National Park, in eastern Botswana.

Formerly an island in a massive inland lake, Lake Makgadigadi, which may have covered 31K sq. mi (80K sq. km) from its formation 3M years ago until its demise 10K years ago. Famous for its growth of baobab trees, which cover much of the formation. It is considered a sacred place by the indigenous population.

Visited in 2007 by the presenters of Top Gear, a BBC motoring show, during their 'Botswana Special', in which they drove three non-off-road-oriented cars of less than £1500 value across the width of Botswana, starting from the border with Zimbabwe across the Makgadigadi Pans, the Kalahari Desert and Okavango Delta, into Namibia, a journey of more than 1000 miles.
