Carowinds is over 100 acres of the best rides from Pennsylvania till Orlando! The park opened in 1973 on the border of North and South Carolina. The park was named Paramount's Carowinds from 1993 to 2006. In 2006, the park, along with all of the Paramount parks, was purchased by Cedar Fair. Starting with the 2007 season, the name of the park was changed back to Carowinds and 'Paramount' was dropped from the title. The park contains 12 coasters including Nighthawk, which is one of only two flying coasters in the Southeast. The other one being located at Six Flags over Georgia.
New for 2009: Carolina Cobra which is a boomerang-type coaster.
