Dighi Port is being developed as an all-weather deep draft direct berthing port located on Rajpuri Creek, Raigad district of Maharashtra, about 50 nautical miles south of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port and 175 km by road from Mumbai Port (MbPT) by road. The creek forms the harbour basin and the port facilities are being developed on the southern (Dighi) and the northern (Agardanda) banks.
M/s Balaji Infra Projects Ltd (BIPL) entered into a Concession Agreement with Maharashtra Maritime Board in March 2002 for exclusive right to develop, operate and maintain a multipurpose port at Dighi on a 50 year BOOST basis (novated in the favour of Dighi Port Limited (DPL) in December 2006). IL&FS has been co- developing the Port and currently holds a significant equity stake in the Project
The Port is envisaged to be developed as all weather, deep water, multipurpose, common user Port in phases comprising of 9 berths and an ultimate handling capacity of 90 MTPA
Phase 1 of the project facility involves the development of 5 multi-purpose berths. The ultimate handling capacity for this phase would be 30 million tonne. Currently 1 berth on the South side is operational and 2 more berths are expected to be commissioned in the next financial year
Out of the above, IL&FS Maritime has taken up the development of two multi – purpose berths on the North side of Dighi on Sub Concession basis from DPL for 30 years
