Stari Most (Mostar)

Bosnia and Herzegovina / Federacija Bosna i Hercegovina / Mostar
fortress, interesting place, bridge, UNESCO World Heritage Site

Stari Most (Old Bridge) is the feature which provided the town of Mostar with its name. Building of the bridge across the Neretva river commenced on the instructions of Suleiman the Magnificent in 1557. To many visitors its image represents the town.

Destroyed in 1993 by hostilities during the break-up of HVO(Croatian Army), the bridge has been rebuilt and was officially opened again in 2004. It is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
