  • i saw the ruins advertised as part of a Fukuoka Historical Tour. As My son and I wanted to find the ruins on our own, we took the bus # 40 from Hakata Station and got off when we saw the overhead road sign pointing to the Itazuke Ruins. We crossed the road, and walked for 10 minutes, when we noticed the green area on the right. We were still not sure where the museum was, and walked clockwise around the ruins until we saw it. The museum is actually found by turning right on the road beside the ruins, then the next left (2 minute walk). I think that admission was free, and the persons in charge were very friendly and helpful, although they spoke little english. My son and I were given a tour of the museum, which included being able to touch and try all the ancient rice farming tools and wear clothing that was commonly worn in that era. It was a very informative experience (we were the only visitors), and we were able to walk through display rice paddies at the entrance of the museum and learn about rice planting. The ruins are well laid out and maintained. This may not be a museum that receives many visitors, but if you want to learn about the culture of Japan (where rice is eaten with most meals), this is a great experience.
