Constructed from 1888 during the Phase 3 expansion of Point Nepean fortifications.
The position was fitted with a single BL 10-inch Mk.1 naval gun, the largest coastal defence gun emplaced in Victoria. The gun survives and is displayed at the junction of Defence and Ochiltree Roads (see marker).
It was fitted into a hydropneumatic mounting that raised the gun for firing and lowering it again for loading.
In 1986, the Fire Command Post was fitted with Port Phillip's Pilots Radar Navigation installation.
