Dr. Walter A. Groves
1898-1984

Born in Germantown, Pennsylvania, 1898.

Alumnus of Lafayette College (B.A., 1919), Princeton Theological Seminary (M.A., 1922), and the University of Pennsylvania, (Ph.D.,1925).

Soon after his Ph.D. Groves left for Tehran where he served as professor of philosophy and religion at the Alborz American College.

In 1931 he took on the additional duties of registrar and dean.

He returned to the US in 1940, and From 1940-42, held the professorship of philosophy and religion at Centre College, Danville, Kentucky.

From 1942-46 he was with the Louisville Presbyterian Seminary.

In 1947 he returned to Centre College as President, and served till 1956.

In 1956, Groves resigned this office to return to the Iran, and became the president of the Abadan Institute of Technology.

He remained there until 1961, when he became vice chancellor and dean of the engineering school at Shiraz.

He also served as the chairman of the Development Foundation of Damavand College, 1975-79.

Groves died in 1984.
