Law Courts (Vancouver)

Canada / British Columbia / Vancouver
 restaurant, courthouse

The provincial law courts are housed in a building designed by well known architect Arthur Erickson who created a building with an incredibly massive glass roof. From the aerial view you can also see the equally large reflecting pond that stretches out above Smithe St., many of the lawyers and judges have lunch at the restaurant that looks out over this water feature and is open to the general public.

The project began as a provincial government project to replace the neo-Classical courthouse which now houses the Vancouver Art Gallery. The building opened in 1980.

  • This used to be one big parking lot until it was redesigned by Arthur Erikson. It looks much nicer now. There were Salsa classes upstairs for a while. Sometimes people have events here too. Beyond court appearances I mean. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Erickson
  • Added description and link to building's architect.
